Nettspend has stepped into a new chapter of music and life. On latest track, “sober,” the 19-year-old Virginia rapper born Gunner Shepardson brings listeners inside his ongoing journey with addiction. The quiet opening of “sober” is soon chopped into a beat courtesy of producer reklus1ve. Nettspend’s blown-out vocals slice through the track as he offers an update on his current point of view, rapping: “Every different day, I look outside, this s— changed.”
“sober” arrives with a black-and-white music video featuring appearances from Nettspend’s mother and his close friend and collaborator OsamaSon. With a freshly buzzed haircut, Nettspend emerges from the ocean, gazing into the sun. Though waves crash around him, he keeps his head above the water and skateboards through Los Angeles, overlooking the city’s horizon at nighttime.
In March, Nettspend released his album early life crisis. The 21-song record features songs like “who tf is u,” “Pain Talk” with OsamaSon, and the YoungBoy Never Broke Again collaboration “masked up.” early life crisis soared to No. 2 on both Spotify’s Global and U.S. Top Albums charts while amassing over 7 million streams within 24 hours of release.
Nettspend recently previewed a collaboration with OsamaSon. He told the rap social media personality 42CEO, “what y’all should be looking for next is NXO tour—NXO album, NXO tour.” He also previewed the album during Summer Smash.
In April, Nettspend released a compilation album, titled Him, exclusively on SoundCloud. Him is now available to stream on all platforms.
Nettspend hit the road in support of the album. His sold-out headline tour included massive sets at Lollapalooza and Rolling Loud. The new track follows Nettspend’s recent appearance at the American Music Awards and his NYC Gucci Wooster store takeover, which was covered by Teen Vogue. In February of this year, Nettspend walked his second runway with Gucci in Milan, Italy.
