Olivia Lufkin has returned to music with a newly recorded version of "Wish," the beloved second opening theme from the anime NANA. Titled "Wish -Reimagined-," the track marks twenty years since the original song was released as the anime's opening theme. 

The original "Wish" was released under the name OLIVIA inspi' REIRA (TRAPNEST), tied to Lufkin's role providing the singing voice for Reira Serizawa, lead singer of the band Trapnest in Ai Yazawa's manga. The new version was arranged by rui (fade), who also co-wrote the original song with Lufkin. The release marks Lufkin's return to music after a 14-year hiatus, prompted by her recent reunion with rui. 

Lufkin plans to follow this self-cover with new original material. The timing coincides with a broader resurgence of interest in NANA: the manga has recently been reissued internationally n a 25th anniversary edition, including an official collaboration version with British designer Vivienne Westwood, whose designs feature prominently throughout the story. In 2025, Lufkin also traveled to Paris to celebrate the anniversary with fans at a meet-and-greet event. 

Reflecting on the themes that shaped the original song, Lufkin shared:

"The more people live, the heavier the baggage they carry becomes, you know. They gradually lose the ability to move as they wish. That's why they start needing someone who can carry that burden together with them."
