Edinburgh electronic-indie outfit redolent have released their warm new single, “funner,” serving as the official follow-up to their recent comeback track “ok wow.” While “ok wow” sat in the uncomfortable tension following an argument, “funner” swings to the opposite end of the spectrum. Built around a simple, quiet moment of bliss while on tour in Texas, eating an ice cream sandwich on top of a car during a sunset, the band describe the upbeat track as capturing the exact “opposite of a panic attack.”

Reflecting on the track’s origins and its role as a lighter palette cleanser on their upcoming body of work, the group shared:

“It’s funny looking back on funner, it’s a bit of an attempt at a pop song for a major label. It takes me back to that time. I remember sitting on Andy’s car in Texas with an ice cream sandwich watching a sunset and having what felt like the opposite of a panic attack. I like its place on the album as a kind of goofy, disarming, not-that-deep break from a lot of the more intense, darker stuff on there.”

The release arrives alongside a lo-fi music video featuring frontman Robin Herbert dancing across a Scottish field while Alice Hancock operates an SP-404 sampler nearby.

“funner” follows redolent’s self-produced documentary, released alongside “ok wow”, which traces the band’s wild trajectory from a 2021 GameStop stock windfall to a Columbia Records deal, its subsequent end, and their Scottish Album of the Year (SAY) win in 2024 for debut record dinny greet.
