The release date for Dexter: Resurrection season two has been confirmed – check out the official teaser video below.
The show, which is a sequel to both the original Dexter and Dexter: New Blood, aired its 10-episode first season last summer on Paramount+. In the autumn, star Michael C. Hall revealed that the series had been “green-lit” for another run.
It has since been announced that Brian Cox (Succession) is joining the cast as the New York Ripper, with Uma Thurman reprising her role as Charley. Other cast members include Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey) and Gabriel Luna (Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.).
Desmond Harrington is also returning as Quinn from the original Dexter, while Krysten Ritter is reprising her role as Lady Vengeance.
Now, a brief teaser trailer for Dexter: Resurrection season two has been released. The clip shows the titular character visiting an optician for an eye test. We later see a scene of him in killer mode, before he puts on a pair of glasses.
“He’s back,” a message on screen reads, “and sharper than ever.” The closing moments of the video then confirm that the second season will premiere on Friday October 30. Watch here:
According to the official synopsis, season two finds Dexter “caught between two killers – one notorious and the other terrorising New York in ways no one ever anticipated – all while battling his greatest enemy yet: a midlife crisis”.
It adds: “Harrison [Jack Alcott] continues his own pursuit of justice as father and son face their darkest chapter.”
Meanwhile, System Of A Down’s Shavo Odadjian has been revealed as part of the cast for Dexter: Resurrection’s second season.
Speaking to NME last summer, Hall explained that he initially thought he had left the Dexter character behind for good after the climax of New Blood.
“I thought that was it,” he said, “but there had been some – somewhat in jest – conversations I’d had casually about, if nothing else, the recognition that he didn’t get shot in the head, and it was very cold on that forest floor, so it remained a remote possibility. But I didn’t think that he would [actually] get revived.”
He continued: “I found myself increasingly compelled by the notion that the end of the New Blood series could represent some threshold he could cross that would perhaps lead him back to something he’s probably been longing for since halfway through the season proper – a return to a more unencumbered relationship to his code [that only ensures he kills deserving cases] and who he actually is. And maybe there was some sort of burden that he’d been carrying for some time that he could be released from.”
The original Dexter ran for eight seasons on Showtime from 2006 to 2013, while Dexter: New Blood served as a continuation of the character’s arc for 10 episodes in 2021/’22. A prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin, was an origin story for Dexter. It premiered in 2024 but has not been renewed for a second season.
