Control: Resonant, a sequel to the beloved 2019 sci-fi thriller, follows Dylan (the brother of original protagonist Jesse) through a warped version of Manhattan that’s on the brink of paranatural annihilation.

“Unleash the extraordinary powers of Dylan Faden as he fights for his humanity and our survival against a reality-bending cosmic threat,” reads an official description of the game.

The game was released last week and tomorrow, Petri Alanko’s original soundtrack will hit streaming services. However, NME readers can listen to the beautiful, haunted ‘The One I Once Knew (ft. Amelia Jones)’ right now. Check it out below:

Alanko was behind the score for the original Control, as well Remedy’s other spooky franchise Alan Wake.

“’The One I Once Knew’ got its birth long ago, when I was still working on Alan Wake 2. For a short while I even thought it could fit in with that – but the overall consensus was it had a bit too great an emotional impact, and we decided to leave it resting,” Alanko told NME. “At some point the lyrics were honed into their current form, and when Amelia Jones sang her beautiful vocals on it, something clicked.

“It’s a track about searching for something or someone that feels almost like a lost half of you, not knowing where to find it, but your heart will show the way,” he continued. “It bears a very significant meaning to me. It was a long time in the making, but I feel it is now where it should be. Another dear thing about it is it gave a lot of material for other tracks [on the soundtrack] as well.”

In a statement about the game, Alanko said the scope of Control: Resonant was well beyond everything he’s been involved with. “It was incredibly intense trying to hold back tears, when the twists and turns were thrown at you, and emotionally Control: Resonant went deeper under my skin than I expected. Under the action, it is a story about devotion, dedication and determination.”

The team behind Control: Resonant have also shared an eclectic mixtape of original songs, dedicated to Dylan’s Federal Bureau Of Control handler Zoe De Vera. “A central theme in Control Resonant is the pursuit of humanity in a strange, esoteric world. With that context, I wanted to explore the tension between surrealism and something deeply familiar,” said the game’s creative director Mikael Kasurinen about the mix of rock, hip-hop and pop.
