The sequel to 2022’s The Batman started filming in Glasgow in August but last week, production stopped when director Matt Reeves had to leave the set for personal reasons. “[Filming] will pause for a little bit [but] we’re going to figure it all out,” Bruce Wayne actor Robert Pattinson told Variety.

It’s now been announced that Reeves won’t be returning to finish principal photography but Steven Soderbergh will step in to help out. “I thought Matt Reeves’ work on The Batman was stunning; it was intentional, specific, and rigorously coherent,” Soderbergh said in a statement. “The goal here is to work with Matt and his team to generate footage that will integrate seamlessly with what’s already been shot so Matt can properly finish his film.”

Reeves also took to social media to respond to speculation that he was quitting the film entirely. “Just to be clear, I am not leaving The Batman Part 2. I am profoundly grateful to Steven for coming to my aid during this challenging time to help me finish principal photography. Thank you to all for your concern and well wishes,”he wrote.
