“We Are One!” — You Won’t Fear Them takes to the streets in video for Feminist Synthpunk Single “Una Sola”

Ci apriamo il passo tra la violenza
Siamo una sola

A kick drum thumps with the regularity of a heartbeat, surrounded by cold synthesizers and a creeping sense of dread. A sampled news report enters, recounting the cruel reality of the frequency with which women are murdered, often by partners and relatives, before delivering a devastating figure: one woman or girl killed every ten minutes. Then the beat stops. The silence makes the connection between a statistic and a heart that ceases to beat painfully clear.

That opening establishes the stakes of “Una Sola,” the debut single from You Won’t Fear Them, the live project of Sicilian composer, vocalist, and producer Emilia Celona. Based in Barcelona, Celona channels feminist anger and solidarity into an abrasive collision of synthpunk and synthwave. The video arrives ahead of her debut album, A Wider Spectrum, due December 11, 2026.

As the rippling bass sequence returns, the song gathers speed, its initial unease feeding a harder, insistent rhythm. Droning tones and analog electronics give the arrangement a cold precision, while Celona’s voice brings an altogether less orderly force. Singing in her native Italian, she attacks the phrases with a caustic urgency that recalls Poly Styrene, as though X-Ray Spex had traded their saxophone for a bank of synthesizers. Fans of KaS Product and Malaria! will recognize the attraction of setting an unruly voice against tightly sequenced electronics.

Produced by Dársena – Agencia Creativa and directed by Ornella Gaudini, the video opens with archival images of women’s struggles, including suffrage marches, before turning to a succession of women holding handwritten cards about femicide. They face the camera against a wall covered in graffiti, their steady gazes giving those statistics a human presence. Images of earlier demonstrations overlap their faces, connecting the women before the lens with generations who have fought for their rights.

From those still portraits, the film moves into the bustle of a tree-lined Barcelona promenade. Wearing a purple-and-green patterned jacket and a purple neckerchief, Celona sings directly into the camera as friends gather around her, dancing, laughing, and throwing their arms over one another’s shoulders. The camera sways and spins among them; sunlight washes across the lens, and close-ups catch the affection passing through the group. Cuts to demonstrations, banners, and raised placards connect this small gathering to a much larger movement. Their pleasure in being together gives the song’s appeal to sisterhood an immediate, everyday expression.

The video closes with a dedication:

“Dedicated to the women of all eras: the activists, the homemakers, the rebels, and the forgotten. In struggle and in quiet grace, you build this world.”

Celona comes to the project after more than a decade behind the decks as Omvra, alongside work composing for dance pieces and sound installations. Her background in musicology and sound design informs an approach that moves among EBM, synthwave, new beat, coldwave, and synthpunk, allowing their different rhythmic and expressive possibilities to meet. The project also gives her a place to confront the relationship between music and the circumstances in which it is made. “I strongly believe music shouldn’t be detached from its historical and social context,” she explains.

“Una Sola” was written, performed, and produced by Celona, with vocal tracking and mixing by Alex Brinken at Beatlabs and mastering by M.A. Spaventi. Its mixture of electronic discipline, punk impatience, and collective purpose introduces the wider range of ideas she pursues across A Wider Spectrum.

The album will be self-released on December 11, 2026, on vinyl and digitally through Bandcamp. It will also be available on streaming services, with Spotify and Amazon excluded by the artist’s personal choice.
