20 years ago, Rihanna released her debut album Music Of The Sun and began one of the most prolific and successful careers in modern music. To celebrate, the R20 campaign is making it easier than ever to enjoy the two decades of hits from pop’s coolest star. A new website features a variety of vinyl options from Rihanna’s eight-album discography, as well as new merch options like a “R20 Rhenna Doll.”
Beyond the merchandise, the anniversary campaign will also offer something Rihanna’s social media savvy fans have been wanting for a long time. Her full catalog is finally available for use on TikTok, Instagram, and other short-form platforms. The music that already exists on social media has proved extremely popular. Right now, “Breakin’ Dishes” off her 2007 album Good Girl Gone Bad, which was never released as a single, is climbing the charts thanks to attention it’s attracted on social media. “Stay,” “We Found Love,” “Love The Way You Lie,” “Please Don’t Stop The Music,” and “S&M” have also appeared on various Billboard charts this week years after their releases, as Forbes reports.
In 2005, Rihanna shot to international fame with her debut single “Pon Da Replay.” Before, the singer was a teenager in Barbados who had formed a girl group. However, it was clear that she was a star, and when she eventually auditioned for Jay-Z, he was adamant on signing the young artist to Def Jam Records. “A lot of people said I was going to be a one-hit wonder,” Rihanna recalled later. “But I worked my hardest to prove them wrong. And when we came out with the second album, ‘SOS’ and ‘Unfaithful,’ both blew up!”
Of course, Rihanna is anything but a one-hit wonder. Throughout the 2000s and 2010s, the singer notched hit after hit, racking up 14 number one singles. While fans have been begging for a new album since 2016’s Anti, there is plenty of music to look back upon and celebrate until that day comes.
