Ceremony Shadows – “Future Past Collapse”

“Future Past Collapse” is another standout track from Portland, OR-based act Ceremony Shadows, whose darkwave and post-punk stylishness has immersed us in the past with tracks like “Resistance” and “Prey.” Coming off the heels of their recent album Ascension, “Future Past Collapse” showcases further high-quality songwriting — moving from debonair, spoken-word verses into a more vibrant, melodically caressing title-touting hook. A sturdy post-punk rhythmic pulse pairs with magnetic synth tones and dynamic vocals, for a stellar success.

“We were wondering if we will come to feel (or are already feeling) nostalgic towards human technology, especially as AI technology rises and displaces much of what has made us human up until this point in our history as a species,” the band says of the new release. “Humanity is about to be augmented, if not replaced in certain ways, by AI technology. We wrote “Future Past Collapse” to examine this sense of nostalgia.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
