The Bear will be ending with season five, according to reports citing official sources close to the HBO hit.
The show stars Jeremy Allen White as Carmy Berzatto, a chef who leaves the world of fine dining in order to take over his family’s sandwich shop after a tragic loss, turning it into an upscale restaurant. It debuted in 2022 and has received many accolades, including 21 Emmy awards and five Golden Globes.
Now, Deadline is reporting that sources from the show have confirmed it will end with the fifth season. Creator Chris Stoner’s previous plan was to end on season four, however the show’s success prompted them to continue.
Cast member Jamie Lee Curtis, who plays Carmy’s mother Donna Berzatto, appeared to reveal the news prior to the report by posting a picture from the set with co-star Abbie Elliot (Natalie ‘Sugar’ Berzatto).
“FINISHED STRONG!” the post’s caption read. “Surrounded by an extraordinary crew and group of writers and producers and scene partners on the show that Chris Storer created, completing the story of this extraordinary family that we have all fallen in love with. Got to finish it out with my baby Berzatto bear,”
The Bear season five was announced last July, and is expected to premiere later this year. In December 2025, White discussed the series being extended while on The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast.
“The fourth season was going to be the last,” he said. “Chris [Storer] called me on Christmas Eve last year and was like, ‘We’re gonna do some more.’ And, I don’t know, that could happen again around this holiday time. There’s no plans for it to be the last.”
The fourth season made NME’s 20 best shows of 2025, where we concluded: “Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri are still giving the best performances on TV (with an underserved Ebon Moss-Bachrach running a close third), but their broader arcs of grief, self-destruction and lost purpose are finally given sharper definition as the show looks to be heading towards some kind of conclusion.”
