It turns out comedy legend Bob Mortimer is a huge Resident Evil fan.
After winning the first season of Amazon Prime Video’s Last One Laughing, Bob Mortimer returned for season two as defending champion competing against Alan Carr, David Mitchell, Diane Morgan, Romesh Ranganathan, Mel Giedroyc, Maisie Adam, Sam Campbell, Gbemisola Ikumelo and Amy Gledhill.
During the second half of season two, Campbell asked Mortimer if he “throws down [and] gets into video games? What’s your relationship with that medium?”
“It’s past, but it was very strong at one point,” replied Mortimer. “Do you remember when the Resident Evil [games] came out? I used to do all the Resident Evils.”
“I once came back from a gig, everyone else was asleep in the house [so] I started playing [Resident Evil] and I got so freaked out, I was too scared to even switch the console off. I just left the controller on the floor and went to bed,” added Ranganathan.

Back in 2016, Mortimer appeared on short-lived video game panel show Dara O’Brian’s Go 8Bit where he spoke more about his love of Resident Evil 3. “Resident Evil is the first game I ever played and it’s what got me into the format of killing things. It is genuinely scary, it’s the first game I played so there’s some nostalgia involved there and it’s something they’ve never recreated – those first three are just so creepy. Killing people is just really good fun.”
Bob Mortimer isn’t the only celebrity Resident Evil fan either. The Weeknd was invited to Capcom HQ to play Requiem early and recently revealed that it took him just over 11 hours to complete the game on Standard difficulty. Meanwhile rapper Ice-T has been having issues with Requiem’s horrible spider bosses.
Resident Evil Requiem is one of the best-reviewed games of 2026 so far, and has become the best under-reviewed game of all time, beating Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Capcom has also confirmed Requiem is the fastest-selling game in Resident Evil history.
Last week, Capcom confirmed details of a 30th anniversary Resident Evil orchestral concert tour, ‘Symphony Of Legacy’.
In other news, Donald Glover, Jack Black and Anya Taylor-Joy have freestyled over the classic Super Mario Bros. theme while doing press for The Super Mario Galaxy movie.
