Olivia Rodrigo Announces New Album, ‘You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love’

Olivia Rodrigo You Seem Pretty Sad

Olivia Rodrigo fans can stop looking for clues; her third album has been officially announced. Titled you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, the record will arrive via Geffen on June 12th.

Rodrigo shared the news with an Instagram post of the album’s cover, which features the singer upside-down on a swing in a pink dress. She has once again collaborated with Guts and Sour producer Dan Nigro, who shared a photo of the pair finishing work on the album in late February.

A single hasn’t been released yet, but Rodrigo gave her audience a taste of what to expect in her fan newsletter. “No matter how hard I try to write love songs,” Olivia wrote, “they always come out a little laced in melancholy.” She added that she’s “so proud” of the new record and can’t wait for fans to hear it.

Before the album announcement, Rodrigo shared with British Vogue that it was a “creative challenge to write from a joyful place,” while also noting that the record was full of “sad love songs.” She explained, “I realised all my favourite romantic love songs were beautiful because they had a tinge of fear or yearning in them.”

Describing the album’s closing track, Rodrigo shared it’s “what I think being in love feels like. You’re getting to the core of all of your issues: how you feel about yourself, your insecurities, what makes you joyful. It feels like the most raw form of you, which is so scary and terrifying and uncomfortable, sometimes, but beautiful at times.”

Rodrigo’s last album, 2023’s Guts, was a massive success. The Guts tour was the most successful headlining tour of any artist born in the 21st century, with 100 sold-out shows and 1.6 million attendees.
