There is quite an elaborate staggered shuffle and it sounded like New York’s Belle Blue could match it in the vocal stakes. Wash’ sounds effortless, summery and full of the kind of shimmering guitar moves that would put you in mind of summertime when the feeling is easy but with a hint of rebellious. That is because there is a punk undercurrent to what transpires here, not immediately obvious but certainly so when things get a little more euphoric. Steady brilliance. KH
