A harmonious power-pop and alt-rock melding stirs on “Scam Likely,” a recent track from TIFFY, led by multi-instrumentalist, Asian-American artist Tiffany Sammy. “I didn’t mean to pick up the phone,” Sammy’s vocals resonate alongside twangy guitar melodics and atmospheric, organ-like synths. A heartfelt pedal steel injection arrives as her vocals assume a soaring allure, reflective of the track’s power-pop direction, and culminating in a delectably hooky guitar solo passing the one-minute turn.
“What if everything could be different, in an instant?” she sings during this magnetic chorus, reminding stirringly of a cross between Camera Obscura and Japanese Breakfast in the mixture of bursting guitars and expressive vocals. “Scam Likely” is a magnetic, replay-inducing charmer from TIFFY. It marks another success for the artist, who first caught our ears in 2023 with the track “Don’t Take It Personally.”
Sammy elaborates on the track’s inspiration:
“I get an endless amount of scam phone calls; it’s the only thing trying to reach me since no one talks on the phone anymore. I wanted to entertain the idea of what if I just picked up the phone and it actually changed my entire world? I felt this way as a reaction to the relentless digital ether tech void we live in. In producing the tracks it was amazing to expand the range of instruments used. In addition to the standard rock setup on the track we used pedal steel, fun synth organs, and analog gear like a Chamberlin.”
