Ooma – ‘A Timeless Echo’ EP

Achieving a gripping mixture of lushly absorbing charm and funky pop vibrancy, A Timeless Echo is the sophomore EP from Paris-based quartet OOMA. Fronted by Irish singer Tansy Greenlee, the release explores celestial landscapes where trip-hop, jazz, and soul intertwine, balancing intricate grooves with improvisational synth textures and deep emotional vulnerability.

A blissfully intoxicating opener, “Cursed” fuses lushly wordless vocal harmonies, lounge-friendly glistening keys, and warming bass as it gets underway. “To be cursed, there’s nothing easier to think that from birth…” the vocals begin with contemplative allure, beckoning to “wear it with pride” and battling misfortune with personal confidence and vigor. The mellow vocal sophistication expands to an especially gorgeous second half, soaring there with soulful passion. The ensuing “WTF BrAin?” struts a brisker funk vision, its slappy bass lines and “caught in a loop” vocal laments engaging across an array of both glitzy funk-pop and dreamy atmospherics.

Another standout track, “A Timeless Echo” excels in its drive from dream-pop serenity to “hoping to reach the sun” spacey pop effervescence. Thematic conquests for unity and personal solace coexist beautifully with the absorbingly starry-eyed soundscape and riveting vocal work. EP finale “Something” concludes the excellent release with initial piano-led melancholy, as gentle guitar and percussive pit-patter inject a jazzy intrigue. The jazzy rhythms, lovely piano, and emotive vocals combine for a thoroughly inviting send-off. A Timeless Echo is abundant in quality songwriting and captivating atmospherics from Ooma.

“A Timeless Echo” and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
