NINA + Radio Wolf – ‘Jukebox Dream Vol. 1’

An enchanting introduction to a moody retro-futuristic world, newly released album Jukebox Dream Vol. 1 sees NINA and Radio Wolf fuse propulsive electronic beats with moody guitar-touched flair. The record thrives on shadow-themed romance, matching sweeping synthesizer leads with piercing guitar work and haunting vocals.

The aptly titled “Don’t Trust The Night” opens the album with riveting appeal, capturing a late-night intrigue in its chilling touches of guitar and suave synth arps. “Will you trust me?” Nina’s vocals emerge seamlessly, the “enter through the labyrinth” lyricism furthering that overall sense of atmospheric mystique. References to shadow-dancing and labyrinthian spaces meld with moody guitar/synth interplay for a captivating kick-off to the release. The ensuing “My Dark” unveils a heavier synth pulsation initially, traversing into dynamic vocals, both with whispered spaciousness and brisker pop-forward momentum. The soaring vocal hook, revealing past the first minute, is especially replay-inducing.

A more smitten, heartfelt charm shows on “Galaxy Eyes,” where star-shining lyrical descriptions combine with a throwback guitar twanging, strutting a ’60s balladry feeling amidst lushly caressing synth pads. Elsewhere, “Lost In This Forever” features a “stay with me” vocal yearning as further alluring synth and guitar work shine, with the guitar elements reminding fondly of New Order in their jangly tones. Finale “Jukebox Dream” is another gem, expanding from wordless dreamy vocal mystery to climactic slow-burning and a “dance with me, in shadow light” debonair beckoning. Jukebox Dream Vol. 1 is a melodic, stylish standout from NINA and Radio Wolf.
