Sophie Bernice Confronts Betrayal On ‘Loyal Dog’

Rooted in feelings of pain and heartbreak, singer-songwriter Sophie Bernice shares her latest release, Loyal Dog.

Sophie Bernice – Loyal Dog

Based in the UK, Sophie Bernice has had a lifelong connection with music, writing songs from an early age and singing whenever the opportunity arose. Drawing inspiration from artists such as Joni Mitchell, Kate Bush, Sufjan Stevens, and Adrianne Lenker, she crafts ethereal indie-folk shaped by personal experiences, spirituality, the natural world, and the search for genuine human connection.

Among her growing list of accomplishments, Sophie Bernice has received support from BBC Introducing and Alex Rainbird. She also joined Scottish singer Brooke Combe on her UK tour and has accumulated thousands of streams with songs including Sunny and The Hope I Hold On To.

As she continues unveiling her debut album Blue, Blue, Blue one song at a time, Sophie Bernice offers another preview with Loyal Dog. Written from a deeply personal place after experiencing a painful betrayal, the song explores heartbreak, grief, self-love, and the importance of spiritual connection while reflecting on the difficult process of healing.

Contrary to what one would expect from such a poignant premise, Loyal Dog is instead extremely minimalistic and cathartic, indeed ethereal, thanks to its soothing acoustic guitar passages as well as Sophie’s calm and peaceful vocal delivery, which is the most comforting aural balm any soul in need could ask for.

“Loyal Dog is a beautiful display of indie-folk, emotional yet concise in its instrumentation. This is the definition of music for the soul.”

With more songs still to arrive before the complete release of Blue, Blue, Blue, Sophie Bernice continues to build anticipation for her debut album while further establishing herself as an artist well worth following within the independent music scene.
