A resonating, heartfelt alt-rocker from Adam Jensen, “Cellophane” pairs fervent vocals with erupting guitar distortion, which at its heaviest moments fondly reminds of early Smashing Pumpkins. Representing the first single from his debut full-length Hymns for the Damned, “Cellophane” was written and produced by Jensen in his garage, described as “about your past suffocating your future.” Jensen continues: “It’s about the demons of your past becoming the demons of your future no matter how hard you try. You can’t escape your past. You can’t escape yourself.” The result is a stirring success, succeeding in both its ghostly title-touting moments and sequences of impactful alt-rock ardor.
