Green Day have announced the soundtrack for their upcoming coming-of-age film Nimrods, including new track ‘I’m Never Gonna R.I.P.’ – check it out below.
With the film set to be released in August, the soundtrack will arrive on July 31 and will be made up of 22 career-spanning Green Day songs, including four previously unreleased live recordings from the Palladium in Los Angeles, as featured in the film.
It will also include the brand new track ‘I’m Never Gonna R.I.P.’, a two-minute blast of tight, old-fashioned rock ‘n’ roll bluster, which you can check out below.
The ‘Nimrods’ album includes songs by The Paradox, Ultra Q and Mckenna Grace, as well as four tracks by Analog Dogs, the fictional band at the centre of Nimrods. It will be available on CD, cassette, digital platforms and several vinyl variants. You can pre-order it here.
The Nimrods film is set to be released in cinemas on August 14. Developed by writer/director Lee Kirk with Green Day and produced by Tim Perell, the film follows three friends, played by Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman and Ryan Foust, who travel to Los Angeles mistakenly believing their band has landed a support slot with Green Day on New Year’s Eve.
Their cross-country road trip is based on the exploits of Green Day and their years spent living in a tour van before their 1994 breakthrough album ‘Dookie’.
The film also stars Ignacio Diaz-Silverio, Keen Ruffalo, Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey, Mckenna Grace, Fred Armisen, Bobby Lee and Sean Gunn.
The film had been in the works since early last year, originally operating under the title New Years Rev. In April, it was confirmed that it had been renamed Nimrods, in reference to Green Day’s 1997 album ‘Nimrod’.
Shortly after the project was first announced, Green Day put out a casting call for some of its scenes, seeking “punks, emo, hardcore, alternative and rocker young adults” aged between 18 and 30. They then released the first trailer last September, before sharing the full-length trailer last month.

Green Day made headlines earlier this year when they played the Super Bowl opening ceremony at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, on February 8.
Billie Joe Armstrong and co. performed a medley of classic songs from their back catalogue, including the politically charged ‘American Idiot’. Armstrong did not, however, sing the tweaked line “I’m not part of the MAGA agenda” as he has done at recent shows.
The trio’s reluctance to make any political statement was a surprise to many, with some taking to social media to express their disappointment at the perceived missed opportunity.
Green Day’s latest album ‘Saviors’ was released in January 2024. NME gave it a four-star review, describing it as “their best work since ‘American Idiot’”.
