Muloobinba/Newcastle, Australia-based artist Todd Kilby, performing as Banquet Darling, unleashes a stylish fusion of indie rock and psych-pop on the single “Shivers and Echoes.” Drawing from his global travels as a former circus acrobat, Kilby pairs gritty grooves with suave, purring vocals. The track navigates magnetic tension and chemical attraction, offering a highly danceable, hook-laden production.
A suave synergy of electric guitar swipes and bouncy bass enamors as “Shivers and Echoes” gets underway. A similarly debonair vocal feeling emerges, beckoning for one to “let go” and joined by sporadic doses of multi-layered vocal enthusiasm. “Shivers and echoes,” the vocals let out as the chorus approaches, which then stirs in its “you got me in control” declaration and culmination of twangy guitar flourishes.
“We cannot stop this chemical attraction,” the vocals dazzle during an especially memorable sequence, conjuring artful momentum in the layered guitar additions. A compelling bridge arrives in the “pleasant charades” sequence, where glistening guitar jangling and a vocal tone switch-up make for a resonating ardor with “howl at the moon” soaring charisma. A reprisal of the “work it…” vocal imploring injects a final hooky vigor, fading out into a smooth “break it down, baby” send-off. “Shivers and Echoes” is a catchy, stylish indie-rock success from Banquet Darling.
Look out for the track’s music video, releasing on July 16th.
