“Dancing With The Spirits” fuses driving post-punk rhythms and spacey synths within Atlanta-based artist MatAre‘s consistently memorable songwriting. Moody guitar textures and ghostly vocal lines combine with ethereal backing harmonies, fashioning a haunting fusion of darkwave energy, driving momentum, and dream-pop allure.

Sturdy percussion and vibrant guitar tones delight throughout the track’s atmospheric introduction, bolstered by effervescent synths and eventually giving way to pulsing bass and panting drums as MatAre’s lead performance arrives. “The moonlit waves that never touch your body,” the vocals continue, the descriptive lyricism and brooding delivery matching the riveting soundscape already established. “Wake the ghosts, for their life has died,” he intones during a gripping chorus, a replay-inducing section of gorgeousness, particularly enhanced by the hauntingly melodic backing vocals of Argentinian artist Denisse Ferrara.

Another standout sequence unveils in the final minute, where an affecting title-bearing refrain oozes emotion and nocturnal soundscape-ready appeal. Vibrant synth adornments, twanging guitar delights, and a steady post-punk rhythmic drive complement this satisfying melodic push, culminating in a final, hazy array of jangly guitars and spacey synths. “Dancing With The Spirits” is another excellent track from MatAre, who has moved us in the past with releases like the Brevity EP and tracks “Extinction Burst” and “I Could Kill You But I Love You.”
