Ceasefire, the debut EP from sibling duo Reality Distortion, fuses dream-pop, grunge, and alt-pop into an urgent exploration of peace, protest, and collective action. Lush synths, gritty guitars, and ethereal harmonies give its timely themes an immersive, emotionally resonant presence, inspired in part by recent events in Minneapolis.

The EP’s title track commences the release with impactful allure, dynamic right away with its traversal from reloading samples to a caressing, dreamy pop entrancement. “I know you wanna run away somewhere, I know you wanna find a place that’s fair,” the duo’s magnetic voices intone, moving seamlessly amidst click-clacking rhythmic tones, shimmering keys, and gentle guitar twangs. The “trying to cure this disease” line builds into an expanse of memorable guitar tones and soaring choral layers; the track is a masterful start to the EP, which doesn’t let up in its quality songwriting.

Another standout track, “Speak Now” feels like a rousing call-to-action. “Speak now, ’cause you know you should,” the lead delivery beckons, with soulful backing layers and buzzy bass tones moving infectiously. References to “anxious times” further the thematic hold and feel reflective of the Minneapolis inspiration, where the community stepped up and spoke out in the face of injustice. Likewise, the ensuing “Renaissance” moves from this fervent call to a more analytical rumination on peace and love.
