“Find Me at Home” is the first major release from Australia-based artist Jude Austin, O, playing as a deeply personal response to an argument with a relative surrounding his transition. Drawing from his experience of rebuilding identity amid family rupture and bullying, the song turns intimate struggle into a cathartic search for acceptance, belonging, and perseverance through richly textured alternative pop.

A beautifully haunting production shows right away, with solemn acoustics, dashes of woodwind, and elegant piano moving into the artist’s intimate lyricism. “I was afraid I was alone, looking out beyond my precious home,” the artist delivers, pairing those admissions of solitude with a “building up walls around my home” ethos. The further assertions regarding stories and structures dictating one’s self and direction speak to a sense of societal pressure, slowly “killing me” as ghostly backing vocals enter with spine-tingling impact.

The “hold on” sequence thereafter is wholly affecting, moving from initial laments to an invigorated perseverance, met aptly by flourishing instrumentation before falling back into a “they’re killing me” subdued entrancement. The lyrical depictions of soul-searching and striving to find acceptance resonate throughout, set alongside a dynamic production that compels across both lusher introspection and heightened emotion. Second-half additions of strings are particularly enveloping amidst the title-touting dual-lead intertwining. “Find Me at Home” is an affecting, personal success from Jude Austin, O.

A Kickstarter will be launched on October 10th to help fund the upcoming debut album.
