Louisville, Kentucky-based band Routine Caffeine present a lushly mesmerizing blend of shoegaze and alternative on “Porcelain Doll,” the second single via their upcoming album. Lyrically juxtaposing fairytale and reality within the textured guitar work and dreamy vocals, the track’s production enamors with hypnotically melodic weight.
A moody bass drive combines with jangling guitar work as Katie O’Brien Kelley’s vocals emerge with serene entrancement. “Golden sleeves, sits upon the chest of drawers in the night,” her voice delivers with riveting precision, apt in its nocturnal scene-setting. A soaring inflection on “the house is getting smaller” further compels, then expanding into a delectably unsettling second half, complete with late-night keys, post-punk rhythmic maneuvers, and an intensifying bass-y finale. It makes for a standout track from Routine Caffeine, consisting of Katie O’Brien Kelley on guitar and vocals, Madison Case on bass and vocals, and Eliza Ledford on drums.
