“not enough” is an excellent single from Oslo-based electronic producer Stijn Reinhout Firmin Viaene, released ahead of his debut album under the Reinhout moniker. Balancing nostalgia, sadness, and hope, the track pairs danceable momentum with reflective atmosphere, embodying his aim to merge analogue warmth and digital precision across emotionally resonant electronic soundscapes.

The track’s production serves up a beautiful balance of dreamy mystique and rhythmic motion. A clanging, repeating synth melds with a pulsing percussive presence to start, quickly bolstered by a playful bass backing just prior to the 20-second mark. This simmering blend of stuttering synths and a steady rhythm section is then complemented by a breathy, dreamy vocal presence, wordless yet harmoniously impactful. Buzzier synth tones continue the production’s gradual tonal evolution, parts serene and other parts otherworldly.

Melodic flourishes of added synths emerge around midpoint, accelerating with enjoyable briskness as the two-minute turn approaches. Just thereafter, a brief pause gives way to a re-incorporation of the warm bass line and balmy vocal layers. The cohesive balance of prancing synths, spacey layers, and a caressingly subdued vocal presence make for a fantastic, atmospherically gripping success from Reinhout, who thoroughly succeeds in his aim to blend analogue warmth, digital savvy, and melodic approachability.
