I just couldn’t escape the feeling of ‘The Sophtware Slump’ era Grandaddy and that for me is up there with the highest praise imaginable. All forlorn indie machinations but with a source for high melodic swoops and soars so that we left gasping for breath at times. ‘What If I Tried?’ builds organically too so we only get the heart and the highlight when we well into the meat and bones of the song. And when it happens all manner of glory announces itself and we’re suddenly and wholeheartedly on the Sunday, June hype train. KH
