Does appear to have its psychedelic side facing out that is for sure, a good deal of country too but most of all a slacker rock persona that feels just right for these lazy post-summer afternoons. Yep, Montague’s Cloudbelly can do things that bring an aura of forlorn but everlasting hopefulness and there was just too much going on here not to feel completely taken by ‘Poppa’. Surprised myself because there is a middle of the road aesthetic going on, but there is also that unmistakable air of greatness too (Aimee Mann reaching at that). KH
