A fantastic new track from The Parlor, “Worcester County Laketown” stirs in its twangy guitars, lyrical laments, and Modest Mouse-esque vocal prowess. Coming via their upcoming double album Sun By Day Moon By Night, out this Friday, “Worcester County Laketown” delights in the melding of mellow guitar charm with intensifying vocal perspectives, thematically exploring “addiction, inherited trauma, religion, and growing up in rural Massachusetts,” per the project.

The initial verses depict a “backwoods town” of origin, where “it’s easy to get lost and old.” More visceral accounts of how “nobody went to therapy” and how “some of my friends got into pills” compel further, driving to a final sequence with harmonizing backing vocal appeal and a memorable closing refrain: “Throw my body in the water / Watch me disappear into oblivion.” “Worcester County Laketown” is a standout piece of songwriting from The Parlor.
