Memoryy – “Hostages”

Another stellar track from Memoryy‘s upcoming album Exit Interview, “Hostages” unfolds with consuming intrigue. “Though deeply personal, it’s ultimately about recognizing that we’re often both the hostage and the captor—and finding the courage to escape,” says Shaun Hettinger, the artist behind Memoryy, following impressive previous album cuts like “Finally Found The Pieces” and “snoopdoggguardianangel.”

Starry-eyed, dreamy synths and vague rhythms drive into Shaun Hettinger’s emotive lead presence, capable of both lush introspection and heightened falsetto emotion. The “when nothing feels right” climactic drive into an erupting hook engages firmly. Perhaps the finest sequence is the captivating finale, where electric guitars and stomping rhythms meld with overlapping harmonic layers, making for a powerful “we are still hostages” send-off. “Hostages” continues our strong anticipation for Exit Interview.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
