Stanley Welch’s ‘Earring’ is a quirky, magnetic slice of indie songwriting born from a spare moment in a guitar shop. Built on a deceptively simple riff written on the road, the track blends Welch’s self-taught multi-instrumentalism with a theatrical, tongue-in-cheek vulnerability. He turns personal heartbreak into an upbeat anthem where sadness is laid bare without taking itself too seriously. The vocal delivery carries a dry, casual wit, making every line feel like an intimate joke shared over a pint. – James Davids
Stepping out from his post-punk roots in The Murder Capital, Gabriel Paschal Blake’s solo debut ‘Everythin’ About You’ is a remarkably tender acoustic-rooted surprise. There is a deeply felt, grounded sincerity running through the track’s full-band arrangement. Gentle strumming and warm, unhurried melodies give Blake room to show off a gentler vocal side, beautifully complimented by Megan Nic Ruairí’s sweet backing harmonies. It’s a track that is perfect for Autumn, a quiet, honest confession. – Katie Macbeth
Taking a step back from their usual heavier punk assault, Bleech 9:3 deliver something far more sombre and lingering with ‘Tourniquet’. The track opens with slow, delicate guitar figures that build a melancholic atmosphere before pulling you into an emotional swell. Breathless guitar riffs and heart-wrenching vocal melodies drive home a sense of desperate, beautiful surrender. A bittersweet love song that feels both hollowed out and incredibly rich, capturing the raw tension of holding onto something fleeting with everything you’ve got. – Lauren Moreton
Ebbb continue their wild fusion of choral pop aesthetics and intense electronic rhythms on ‘Public’, but this time with a noticeably celestial polish. The track balances ethereal, soaring vocal layers against a throbbing, hyperkinetic rhythm section that keeps you on edge. It shifts seamlessly between delicate synth textures and explosive, rave-adjacent kinetic energy. – Meg Ackworth
Ex:Re returns with “Sleep”, the latest glimpse of her second album Save As, due 30 October. Eight years on from her last record, former Daughter frontwoman Elena Tonra’s gift for turning heartbreak into something atmospheric and ethereal remains undiminished. Lyrically sharp and vocally captivating, “Sleep” feels like someone trying to escape the aftermath of a relationship through drugs, dancing and fleeting distractions. It’s a hazy story about a night with “treasure from the internet” that ultimately doesn’t solve the problem, poignantly ending with a shift from “that falls apart in taxis” to the more personal “I fall apart in taxis”. – Henry Dunn
