Full Album Stream: Sundowner –Cesspool

From the Down-inspired logo to the seriously filthy sludge grooves that poison every track, Australian quartet Sundowner seem a bit obsessed with/influenced by the grimy NOLA scene on their hateful new full-length Cesspool. We’re gonna be honest here and suggest that if you’re looking to start your week on a high note, digesting all 10 tracks of this crusher may not give you the PMA boost you’re looking for. But, hey, if a headful of swamp-thick doom wrapped in barb wire vocals is what’s gonna set you straight, look no further.Cesspool does not deviate in any way from its mandate of audio misery.

Cesspool was recorded by the band, while Jason Fuller at Goatsound Studios mixed it Dav Byrne of Iridium Audio handled the mastering. It’s set for release on vinyl via Disdain Records and digitally by the band. Place your preoder for the vinyl here, and digitally here.

The band offered this summation of its latest effort:

“We continued on our path of ’90s inspired sludge on Cesspool. The aim is always to just write better songs, which we think we did on this one. The production this time round also suits the songs perfectly, we love the balance of the wall of sound approach and keeping a level of rawness. We don’t record to a click or any of that so it retains a natural push and pull throughout the album. Cesspool is the Sundowner sound nailed better than any of our previous releases.”
