The Octavio Frias de Oliveira Cable-stayed Bridge to be Illuminated Purple for BTS Army Week

The Octavio Frias de Oliveira cable-stayed bridge in São Paulo will be illuminated in purple for BTS's arrival in Brazil, following a request from fans.

From October 26th to 31st, the bridge will be illuminated to honor the South Korean group.

The cable-stayed bridge, an icon of São Paulo, will be illuminated in purple for a week. The light show comes after a request and mobilization by fans of the group BTS, who are coming to Brazil for three concerts at the end of October. To secure the illumination, the fans made a formal request to the city hall, which published a document approving the request. The Octavio Frias de Oliveira cable-stayed bridge will be purple during "Army Week," from October 26th to 31st.

The initial request was made by the group Purple Impact Brasil, a BTS fanbase from different parts of the country. The team sent the formal request and mobilized on social media so that other people could support the project. The idea worked, and now the request has been forwarded to the Pinheiros Subprefecture for their information and appropriate action.

How did the project to bring purple to the cable-stayed bridge begin?

The idea originated within the Purple Impact Brazil fan club. Jeisiliane Susiellem da Silva Alves, one of the group's members, explains that after the idea came up, it was time to figure out how to make it happen. With the help of council members Esther Moraes, from Santa Bárbara do Oeste, and João Jorge, from São Paulo, they found a way: sending an official letter to the São Paulo City Hall. And, of course, engaging on social media.

"While we were waiting for authorization from the Secretary of Culture, we started mobilizing the Army community on social media, asking fans to comment and tag the City Hall of São Paulo in our posts, the mayor, the Secretary of Culture, the Secretary of Culture, and all the representatives involved to draw their attention and reinforce the request for them to approve our official letter," comments Jeisiliane. In parallel, parliamentarians also coordinated with the Secretary of Culture, trying to help the process move forward, the fan recounts.

Finally, Jeisiliane explains, the group received news this week that the request was approved, and Army Week, which was scheduled for the 26th to the 31st, would take place.

"It was a process built collaboratively by fans from different parts of Brazil, who reposted the posts, sent them to their followers to tag them, so there were several fan bases involved in the social media activity, as well as the people directly involved, which are these parliamentarians who guided and helped us. So, for us, it's very symbolic to see that this initiative that started from a fan base was successful," he concludes.
