We’re excited to premiere “The Knot,” the latest single from Richmond, Virginia alt-rockers The Barons, pairing atmospheric guitars and brass tones for a touch of sophisti-pop alongside the artful rock precision. Featuring a trumpet performance from Tennishu of hometown jazz-funk group Butcher Brown, the track balances rock intensity with a riveting sense of tension. Engineered by Grammy-winning Spacebomb engineer Alex De Jong, the release brings together musicians from Richmond’s rock and jazz scenes.
Blares of guitar and percussive pit-pattering assemble a fully intriguing introduction, then shifting to a debonair entrancement of twangy guitars and moody brass. A melodic lead introspection emerges thereafter, asking “so where did the knot come from?” An escalation of harmonious vocal passion ventures enjoyably in the ensuing sequence, beckoning to “drink your wine in the rain.”
The track’s atmosphere is fantastic, dynamic in its movements from the subdued yearning to “take my hand” to the expressive “now I’ve fallen insane” admission. Shades of black midi show in the raucous delivery shout that shifts to more fantastic brass use, there melding with piano. “The Knot” is a stylish, standout success from The Barons.
