Jersey City-based songwriter Kevin Honold captures the euphoric freedom of the weekend on “Saturday Night.” Blending jazzy classical guitar, rich strings, and smooth saxophone, the track builds into an expansive, full-band celebration of shared human connection away from the daily grind.
Jazzy rhythms and classical guitar stylings commence the track with lush mystique, complemented by heartfelt strings as Honold’s emotive vocals emit a sense of anticipation: “Waiting here all day for a Saturday night. You swear to me, my girl, we’ll do it right.” The scene-setting, filled with summer air and a bright moon, pairs with a sense of infinite possibilities. Honold’s vocal tone gives off a bit of a Tom Verlaine vibe in its debonair delivery. The ensuing title-touting hook consumes in its various additions; both the gorgeous backing vocals and smooth brass incorporations meld seamlessly within the absorbing mix.
“Take me by the hand, I’ll be your guide,” his vocals continue with warm sentimentality, cherishing both company and the beauty of the titular “Saturday night.” Aspirations to “do it right” persist with jubilant qualities, particularly as the brass work assumes a free-flowing effervescence alongside glistening guitars and string-laden continuations, into a wholly satisfying finale. “Saturday Night” is another success from Kevin Honold, who also caught our ears in March with the track “Everything.”
