Here’s what Metallica played as they ended the ‘M72’ tour with their second “no repeats” London gig

    Metallica wrapped up their mammoth ‘M72’ tour in London last night (July 5), playing their second night there as part of their “no repeats” weekend. Check out the setlist and fan footage below.

    The thrash metal icons took to the stage in the capital as part of the last UK and Ireland leg of their huge world tour, which kicked off back in April 2023 and celebrated the release of latest album ‘72 Seasons’.

    London dates came following shows in Dublin, Glasgow, and Cardiff over the past couple of weeks, and the first of the two shows at London Stadium was played on Friday night (July 3), where James Hetfield and co. broke out hits including ‘Master Of Puppets’, ‘Seek And Destroy’ and ‘Sad But True’.

    They took to the stage again last night, and broke out an entirely different set after promising that the two London dates would see “no repeats” on the setlist.

    For the second gig, they kicked things off with ‘Whiplash’, followed by earlier classics including ‘For Whom The Bell Tolls’, ‘Ride The Lightning’ and ‘The Memory Remains’. As seen on night one, just two songs from ‘72 Seasons’ made it into the setlist, and this time around it was the title track and ‘Screaming Suicide’.

    Other huge hits that were included in the setlist included ‘The Day That Never Comes’, ‘Wherever I May Roam’, ‘The Unforgiven’, and their cover of ‘Whiskey In The Jar’. They also rounded the night off with back-to-back renditions of ‘Blackened’, ‘Moth Into Flame’, ‘One’ and ‘Enter Sandman’.

    As is tradition during their shows, bassist Rob Trujillo and guitarist Kirk Hammett broke out a unique “doodle” specifically for the concert, where they cover a couple of tracks that were written in the city that they are performing in.

    After playing a medley of Ian Dury‘s ‘Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll’ and The Clash’s ‘Guns of Brixton’ on Friday, Hammett and Trujillo put their own spin on Black Sabbath’s ‘Electric Funeral’ and Sex Pistols‘ ‘Holiday In the Sun’ for the Sunday gig.

    Support for Friday came from Knocked Loose and Gojira, and last night it was Avatar and Pantera who opened the show in Stratford.
