Mary Kate Golding, a set designer for the show The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, was found stabbed to death in a suspected murder-suicide on Tuesday (July 21). She was 34 years old.
She was found just after midnight in her apartment in Queens, New York, after police were called to the scene. An NYPD spokesperson shared the following statement: “On Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at approximately 0024 hours, police responded to a 911 call of an assault inside of 18-64 41 Street, within the confines of the 114 Precinct.
“Upon arrival, officers observed a 34-year-old female victim with a stab wound to the back. EMS responded and pronounced the victim deceased on the scene.”
Hours later, at approximately 6:39am, officers responded to a 911 call reporting an unconscious man in a nearby park. Variety reports that the man was Joseph Azzaretto, Golding’s husband, and that police sources have shared that a murder-suicide is suspected as the cause of both deaths.
It has also been reported that he was found hanged. The couple’s baby son was found at their apartment unharmed.
Regarding the second body, an NYPD statement read: “On Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at approximately 0639 hours, police responded to a 911 call of an unconscious person in the vicinity of Astoria Park South and Shore Boulevard, within the confines of the 114th Precinct. Upon arrival, officers discovered an unidentified male, approximately 30 to 35 years of age, unconscious and unresponsive inside the park. EMS responded and pronounced the male deceased on scene.”
In addition to The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, Golding worked on TV shows Gotham, The Flight Attendant, Marvel spin-off Hawkeye, and the first season of action-comedy Mr & Mrs Smith. Her IMDb page also credits her as working as assistant set designer on the upcoming music-themed film Deep Cuts, from director Sean Durkin (The Iron Claw). The film stars Drew Starkey and Cailee Spaeny (Alien: Romulus), and is currently in post-production.
