London-based outfit Blow Dry have released their new single, “Mighty Crimes,” a post-punk track driven by percussive beats, insistent guitar lines, and the theatrical vocals of frontwoman Genevieve Welsh. Co-written with producer Jorge Elbrecht (Japanese Breakfast, Sky Ferreira, Angel Olsen), the song builds on the momentum of the band’s recent single “MR. BIG” and captures the explosive, visual energy of their live performances.

Conceived during a fast-paced writing session in Los Angeles, “Mighty Crimes” channels dark humour into a narrative about a corporate worker who kills her boss and goes on the run. Welsh draws on a blend of cinematic and personal influences to explore the unhinged mindset of the track’s protagonist:

“On the surface it’s a relatable laugh – ugh, I want to kill my boss – I mean, how many people have said that before?! But there are real emotions under the humour too: the freedom and release of throwing everything away and heading out into the unknown, tangled up with the anxiety of ‘what have I done,’ and then comes the self-talk you do to convince yourself that yes you were right to make the choices you’ve made… whether you actually were or not.”

“It’s such a playful track combined with the Blow Dry dark humour – as soon as we recorded it I could see the imagery – a Thelma & Louise meets Tarantino meets Priscilla, Queen of the Desert getaway film, but set in the Australian outback. An off-kilter homage to my homeland.”

Originally from Australia and emerging from the fashion world, Welsh leads Blow Dry as both a sonic and visual project. The new release showcases the group’s signature blend of glamour, raw post-punk energy, and striking visual aesthetics. “Mighty Crimes” is available to stream across all major platforms today.
