New single “Take the Ride” introduces Calgary-based artist Aronieme with a chillingly nocturnal dream-pop aesthetic, shaped by dynamic harmonic layers, stylish electronics, and shadowy rhythmic textures. As the first release from a newly developed artistic direction, the track establishes an immersive sonic identity built around vulnerability, mystery, and an invitation toward the unknown.

Fuzzy rhythmic stomps and spacey electronic atmospherics intertwine as the track gets underway, quickly bolstered by Aronieme’s beautifully haunting lead presence. “I hear whispers in the dark,” her lead delivery opens, apt in its nocturnal descriptor when set alongside glimmering synth pads. A whispered backing motif beckons to “follow me into the light or the dark,” while the artist’s lead continues to channel a vibrant dream-pop echo. The interplay between the moving, upfront lead and whispered backing makes for a thoroughly hypnotic effect, furthered by intensifying rhythmic pulsations and an expressive midpoint.

The chorus enamors in its escalated vocalic steadiness, resembling a dreamier Little Dragon. “Does the fear inside, make you wanna run and hide?” Aronieme’s lead intones there, furthering the late-night feeling in the reference to “whispers in the night” as the rhythms fall back into a more subdued entrancement. They reignite into a stark melodic vulnerability, admitting “I’m devastated by your spark” as a final chorus emerges. “Why won’t you take this ride, it’s calling you, just decide,” her singing continues to delight, balanced by ongoing whispered backings and slight guitar additions reminiscent of The xx in its ghostly atmosphere. “Take the Ride” is a fantastic project debut from Aronieme.
