Josh wastes no time in putting us under ‘The Weight’ of his gorgeous vocals and gut-wrenching lyrics. The song unfolds as a beautifully tragic story of love and loss. Josh takes us through the day of his nan’s funeral but finds time to paint the picture of an entire lifetime and the love we all find in each other. Each member of his family is addressed, and their relationship with their loved one is explored. This tale is not only about the loss of a loved one, but how it affects those around them. Josh also finds room to insert some deft humour without breaking stride on his intense delivery.
The song is not one that sounds like a first release. The polished nature and overwhelming musical maturity flowing through the track are wonderful. Based on this, we can all expect big things to come for Josh Pavey.
