Rising solo artist Efro returns with ‘Lipstick Stains’, a heat-hazed ode to summer and the fleeting romances that define it. Arriving on 14th August, the new single finds the artist further refining her distinctive blend of hazy indie rock, psychedelic textures and gritty, vintage-inspired production.
Built around fuzzy bass, biting guitars, distorted keys and boxy drums, ‘Lipstick Stains’ settles into a loose, effortlessly laid-back groove, with subtle synth washes adding to its sun-faded atmosphere. Psychedelic flourishes drift through the track alongside a raw lo-fi edge, creating a sound that feels both nostalgic and immediate. There are echoes of PJ Harvey, Sun Room and Dope Lemon in Efro’s approach, alongside the timeless cool of Lou Reed and The Strokes.
At its heart, ‘Lipstick Stains’ is a song about summer and the memories that remain once it is over. Efro captures the season through images of long days, beaches, crashing waves and summer romance, balancing the warmth of those memories with an awareness of how quickly they can disappear.
“Lipstick Stains began as a visualisation of a perfect endless idealistic summer. I first started writing the lyrics by having in mind the things that make summer what it is, long days at the beach, listening to the waves crashing, summer love. Then I came up with the bassline keeping the song moving no matter what and later came the bridge with the song reaching its climax there, kind of portraying those more spontaneous summer moments we all know and love. It’s a love song about summer.”
The single continues a trajectory that has seen Efro establish herself as an artist with a strong sense of identity. Originally from Athens, she studied in Brighton before relocating to Berlin, drawing on each of those places as she developed a sound that combines indie garage-rock energy with sun-soaked, surf-leaning textures.
Her debut EP, ‘Year of Yearning’, laid the foundations for that sound, introducing a songwriter interested in indie-rock nostalgia, emotional directness and instinctive melody. Since then, Efro has continued to build a growing catalogue that balances introspection with the rough-edged energy of alternative rock.
That progression has also brought increasing attention from across the music landscape. Efro has received New Music Friday support, while her music has appeared on playlists and platforms including Rough Trade’s Counter Culture, Ones To Watch, Earmilk and Notion. She has also been championed by Rolling Stone En Español, Earmilk and radio tastemakers including NTS Radio and Slack City Radio by FatCat Records.
Away from streaming platforms and playlists, Efro has been developing her reputation on stages across the UK and Europe, including an appearance at Quiksilver Festival 2025 in France. Her live work adds another dimension to a project that continues to draw together the rawness of garage rock with the hazy, sun-drenched qualities that have become central to her sound.
Now based in Berlin, Efro’s music reflects a distinctly European journey through Athens, Brighton and Germany. ‘Lipstick Stains’ brings those influences together in a track that feels intimate without losing its swagger, pairing classic-rock cool with psychedelic colour and lo-fi immediacy. It is a fitting soundtrack to the final days of summer, and a reminder that sometimes the moments that linger longest are the ones that were never meant to last.
