France-based instrumental artist Richard MARCER explores the atmospheric possibilities of ambient electronics and cinematic post-rock on “Running Wild,” a track built for headphone listening, featuring spacious synth passages, intricate percussion, and gradual textural development. Following his previously released “Unusual Discovery,” the track continues his exploration of electronic and experimental sounds shaped by influences spanning several decades.
A gorgeous soundscape flows throughout the production, from the initial, spacey sparseness to a second-half expanse with glimmering electronics and intertwining layers. A lonesome synth pad opens the track, joined quickly by a pit-pattering percussive subtleness. Sonorous, chilly keys add seamlessly thereafter, bolstering the lovely atmosphere, fit for deep contemplation whilst floating in the far reaches of space. A flickering, scaling-back intrigue appears just after the one-minute turn, before building back into caressing synth and percussive interplay.
The percussive element retains a familiar, repeating presence throughout, while the synth work escalates in vibrancy past the two-minute turn. A more soaring, hazy illumination shows around 02:30 especially, as smatterings of lounge-friendly keys ease in alongside. This effervescent demeanor continues into a wholly satisfying finale, where the steady percussion and otherworldly yet gentle synth tones fade out into a lulling darkness. “Running Wild” is an artful, atmospheric gem from Richard MARCER.
